An Independent Review Of LightAura - Our 7 Color LED Light Therapy Mask

There is ample scientific evidence to indicate that blue light therapy manages acne by eliminating acne-causing bacteria from the skin’s surface - something topical treatments alone cannot do. At least not without unwanted side effects such as dry skin, burning and skin peeling. Red light therapy has burst onto the skin scene as a answer to many skin concerns, particularly around aging. But is the closely related blue light therapy a long-term solution for acne prone skin? We asked Julija, who tried out the LightAura, a 7 Color LED Light Therapy Mask from Project E Beauty.

Julija faces persistent, painful, and irritating breakouts. Before testing out LightAura, these breakouts were beginning to take a toll on her confidence. Acne is known to have a psychological as well as physical impact and more severe cases can affect day to day life.

Fed up with harsh, irritating and ineffective topical solutions, Julija was determined to find a long term and gentle solution to managing her ance breakouts. She tried 7-Color LED Light Therapy For Acne for 4 weeks, keep reading to see how she got on.

What is LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy uses different color and depth wavelengths to address various skin concerns. The idea is that specific wavelengths can penetrate the skin and trigger biological responses. For example, red light stimulates collagen and reduces inflammation, making it useful for anti-aging. Blue light can kill acne-causing bacteria. Near-infrared light may boost circulation and cellular energy. Green light targets hyperpigmentation.

LED light therapy is a non-invasive therapeutic approach that targets skin issues such as wrinkles and acne, with no downtime. It's a popular, natural, science-backed option often used alongside other skincare procedures from home.

Does LED Light Therapy Treat Acne?

At home LED light therapy for acne has become a more popular and sustainable treatment. When used consistently as part of a comprehensive skincare routine, LED light therapy can be a game-changer for managing stubborn and recurring acne breakouts.

Blue light wavelengths of light (460nm) target a substance called porphyrin produced inside the acne-causing bacteria called P. acnes.

When porphyrin is exposed to the blue light, it creates free radicals that kill the bacteria. Since porphyrins aren't normally found in healthy skin, and the therapy doesn't use any harmful UV light, LED light treatment is considered a safe acne-fighting option. They do not increase the risk of skin cancer like UV light waves emitted directly from the sun.

There is also strong evidence that red and blue light therapy for acne combined is a powerful treatment option.

What is the Best Color LED for Acne?

As mentioned, blue light is the way to go.

The acne-causing bacteria, called P. acnes, is a big contributor to breakouts. But exposing the skin to blue light disrupts the cellular function of P. acnes, causing it to essentially self-destruct. Blue LED light can directly attack the root cause of acne without damaging the surrounding skin. Blue light can help reduce inflammation and prevent future breakouts by killing off these acne-causing germs. Red and blue LED light therapy for acne? Red LED light also has benefits on acne-prone skin, as it can calm redness and irritation.

Blue light LED therapy can treat acne alone or combined with other methods. Users often see noticeable skin improvement after a series of these sessions. This safe, effective solution works for mild to moderate inflammatory acne, even when self-administered at home.

There is strong evidence that a combination of red and blue can help to manage acne as red light supports the rejuvenation of healthy skin cells.

What Age Should We Start LED Light Therapy?

It can be beneficial for a wide range of ages, from teens dealing with acne all the way up to mature adults looking to address signs of aging. If you are under 18, always consults with a dermatologist before starting LED light therapy to ensure it fits into your overall skin treatment plan. As blue light therapy soothes inflammation, it can be used as part of your anti-acne skin routine.

On the flip side, the red and near-infrared light wavelengths used in LED therapy can be incredibly useful for more mature complexions. These longer wavelengths are thought to stimulate collagen production and improve circulation, which in turn can minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Our skin philosophy is always that prevention is better than cure, and we strongly believe in building a strong anti-aging routine in your 20’s that can support youthful and radiant skin into your 30s and 40s.

Julija's Skin Story: Does LightAura 7-Color LED Light Therapy Mask Really Work?

Julija's 4-week journey

Week 1: My skin cleared up around 25%. I wasn't breaking out as much as I normally would which made it less sensitive and less sore to the touch.

Week 2: This is where I started to see most of the improvement. My skin was basically clear and acne scars were starting to be less visible.

Week 3: I think I started using the product too often without taking breaks in between which resulted in a bit of a breakout. BUT my skin tone was starting to look much more even and my scars were starting to disappear.

Week 4: My skin is 95% more clear than when I first started using the product. I see very little breakout and my face feels smooth. My complexion looks brighter and my skin always looks hydrated. I see very little redness on my face compared to usual. I only have a small amount of acne scars left on my cheeks.

How do you feel about your skin after using our product?

It has made me a lot more confident! I don't feel embarrassed to go out in public and worry about what my skin looks like. It doesn't hurt to touch my face anymore and it's become an essential part of my skincare routine. All of my spots have disappeared and it's helping my acne scars so much.
